Coach K says he will be ready to go for his third Olympic gold medal.
Krzyzewski says that he will be ready to coach at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as the typical recovery time for the surgery is four weeks.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Duke University Hospital who made this procedure as smooth as possible,” Krzyzewski said in a statement. “With this surgery behind me, I’ll be in great physical condition heading into the Olympics and I’m excited for the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Team USA will be going for its third straight gold medal at the Olympics with Krzyzewski at the helm. The U.S. men’s national team has won 63 consecutive games dating back to 2006.
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will succeed Krzyzewski as head coach of USA Basketball after the 2016 Olympics. Krzyzewski will move into a special advisory role for the 2017–2020 window.
Duke finished last season 25–11 with a loss to Oregon in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament.
