Toledo assistants McDonald Jr., Veidt joining Matt Campbell at Iowa State

Tuesday December 1st, 2015

Toledo linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator Tyson Veidt and cornerbacks coach D.K. McDonald Jr. are joining the staff of new Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, according to a source.

Campbell had been Toledo’s coach the past four seasons before accepting his new job Saturday. This season was Veidt’s second at Toledo after six seasons as Bluffton University’s coach.

He was the defensive coordinator at Saint Vincent College in Pennsylvania from 2006–07 and before that a graduate assistant at West Virginia for two seasons. He was the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Muskingum College, from 2000–03.

Veidt was also a graduate assistant at Indiana in 1999 after two years as a graduate assistant at Muskingum, where he played.

McDonald had held his position at Toledo the last four seasons. He was William & Mary’s defensive backs coach in 2011 and prior to that the secondary coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s secondary coach for five seasons.

He also coached the secondary of his alma mater, Edinboro University, from 2003–05. That came after he played for the Fighting Scots from 1997–2000.

Iowa State had a 3–9 record this season under former coach Paul Rhoads, who was fired earlier this month.
