Maryland director of player personnel Cory Robinson is Toledo’s new cornerbacks coach, according to a source.
Robinson spent his first season with Maryland this season after serving as the defensive backs coordinator at IMG Academy, working as the lead developer for high school, college and professional defensive backs. He was the assistant head coach at Saint Frances Academy High in 2014 and served as the director of football operations, recruiting coordinator and assistant varsity coach at Calvert High from ’09–13.
Robinson played defensive back at Central Connecticut State from 2005–09. He now joins the staff of new Toledo head coach Jason Candle.
A renowned recruiter, Candle succeeds former Toledo coach Matt Campbell, who took the same job at Iowa State last month. The 36-year-old Candle had been an assistant for the Rockets for the past seven seasons, the last four of which were as offensive coordinator.
Candle’s offense was consistently one of the best in the MAC, ranking second in the conference in scoring offense (35.3 points per game) this season and third in total offense (463.3 yards per game). The Rockets topped the MAC in both categories last season.
Candle started off his head-coaching career with a win Tuesday, as Toledo rolled past Temple 32–17 in the Boca Raton Bowl. The Rockets finished the season with a 10–2 record, their first 10-win campaign since 2001.
