After a year with Colorado, cornerback Cormani McClain is reportedly heading back to his home state.

McClain is transferring to Florida, according to a Wednesday morning report from Pete Nakos of On3. In nine games during the 2023 season, the Lakeland, Fla. native registered 13 tackles and defended two passes.

His limited playing time belied his status as one of coach Deion Sanders's prize recruits. McClain reneged on a commitment to Miami to join the Buffaloes in Feb. 2023; at the time, 247Sports pegged him as a five-star prospect.

During the season itself, McClain and Colorado's fortunes passed each other in opposite directions. He played scarcely as the Buffaloes opened 3-0, but saw more action down the stretch towards the team's eventual 4-8 record.

"I'm really, really proud of Cormani," Sanders said in November.

The Gators— retooling after posting their worst record in six years in 2023— open their season at home against the Hurricanes on Aug. 31. Colorado kicks off its campaign against North Dakota State on August 29.
