Nebraska's athletic department budget will be $103 million for the 2014-15 year, the first time it has crossed the $100 million threshold, the program announced Thursday.

The budget was $93 million last year, meaning this year's figure represents a 10.7 percent increase.

According to the Associated Press, much of the increase comes from additional spending for football recruiting, as the program created six positions this year focused directly in that area.

Nebraska will spend $1.2 million on recruiting in 2014-15, up from $904,000 last year.

A large portion of athletic budgets are funded by television deals. According to the Lafayette Journal & Courier, Big Ten schools other than Nebraska and newcomers Rutgers and Maryland will receive $30.9 million in 2014-15, with no specific figures given for the three newest members.

Nebraska will begin to receive full payouts from the Big Ten's television contracts in 2017-18.
