Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said on the SEC Network Thursday that he envisions Will Muschamp leading the Gators' football team for a "long, long time."

Last season, Florida won four games -- the program's lowest win total since 1978 -- and finished in fifth place in the SEC East Division. One of the Gators' eight losses was to FCS program Georgia Southern.

The Gators have gone 22-16 in three seasons under Muschamp.

Foley has supported Muschamp as public criticism of the embattled coach has intensified, saying on the Paul Finebaum show in July that "We’re going to be better, and we’re excited about the future under Will. [We] feel the same way about him as the day we hired him."

The Gators open the season Aug. 30 against Idaho.
