Texas suspended sophomore guard Martez Walker indefinitely after he was charged with a Class A misdemeanor for assault with injury, the school announced Friday.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, Walker was upset with his girlfriend, Tanecia Gardner, after she went to happy hour with a male supervisor.

Gardner and Walker began to argue in his dorm room and Gardner slapped Walker after he wouldn't let her leave the room. She says that Walker punched her "hard" four times in her left side, then dragged her by her arms and threw her out of the room. Gardner was treated for possible broken ribs, according to the warrant.

"We are aware of the situation with Martez, and he is cooperating with campus police officials," Texas head coach Rick Barnes said in a statement, via the Austin American-Statesman. "We have consistently stressed to all of our student-athletes for a long time that any behavior in which women are not treated with respect will not be tolerated. Pending resolution, Martez has been suspended indefinitely from our basketball program and will not participate in any team functions."

Walker averaged 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per game last season for the Longhorns.
