Georgia issues statement with no update on Todd Gurley
Georgia issued a statement Thursday saying there is no "new news" on the status of star running back Todd Gurley, who is suspended amid an investigation into whether he accepted money in exchange for signing memorabilia.
The statement also indicates that president Jere Morehead, director of athletics Greg McGarity and other school officials met with the NCAA Committee on Infractions in Indianapolis to address the case involving swimming and diving coach Jack Bauerle and that Gurley's situation was also discussed with the governing body's eligibility staff.
"There is no new news at this time and no further comment is necessary," the statement says in regards to Gurley.
After the release of the statement, the official twitter account for NCAA news tweeted that Georgia has yet to request Gurley's reinstatement. "Regarding Todd Gurley's eligibility, the NCAA is continuing to work with Georgia and is awaiting the school's request for reinstatement," the tweet read.

Georgia announced Gurley's suspension in a statement last week after an allegation that he violated NCAA rules.
Gurley returned to practice on Monday after missing Saturday's win over Missouri but there was no update on a timetable for his returning to games. On Thursday, Georgia coach Mark Richt posted a message to his Twitter account saying he did not expect Gurley's status to change this week.
SI.com's Andy Staples reported last week that someone told Georgia's compliance office that he paid Gurley $400 to sign 80 items on campus one day this spring. The report says the person said he had video and a photo of Gurley signing the items, but that neither the video nor the photo showed an exchange of money. A later reportsaid Gurley could miss the rest of the season. The sports memorabilia dealer who allegedly paid Gurley for autographs, Bryan Allen, has reportedly retained a high-profile attorney.
Georgia (5-1) plays at Arkansas on Saturday. In five games this season, Gurley has rushed for 773 yards and eight touchdowns on 8.2 yards per carry. He is considered one of the top candidates for the Heisman Trophy. With Gurley out against the Tigers, freshman Nick Chubb rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown.
