Georgia running back Todd Gurley has torn ACL
Georgia running back Todd Gurley has sustained a torn ACL in his left knee, the school announced Sunday. Bryant McFadden of 120Sports first reported the injury.
The tear was a result of a non-contact injury that occurred on a six-yard run late in Georgia's 34-7 win over Auburn on Saturday. It was Gurley's first game back since serving a four-game suspension for accepting money for autographs.
McFadden reports that MRI results showed there was no MCL damage in Gurley's knee. The school said a surgery date has not yet been set.
Gurley had 29 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown in his return. The tailback was considered a Heisman favorite prior to his suspension and was second in the nation in all-purpose yards when he was suspended.
In six games this season, Gurley had 911 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
Georgia suspended Gurley indefinitely Oct. 9 while he was under investigation for receiving payment for autographs. He missed two games before the school applied for reinstatement following the completion of its investigation, which revealed Gurley accepted more than $3,000 for autographed memorabilia and other items over a two-year period. The NCAA then ruled Gurley was to receive a four-game suspension.
Georgia plays Charleston Southern on Saturday.
