Paul Johnson agrees to four-year contract extension at Georgia Tech
Paul Johnson has agreed in principle to a contract extension with Georgia Tech, the school announced on Saturday.
The contract is for four years and runs through the 2020 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is believed to make Johnson one of the four highest-paid coaches in the ACC, according to ESPN's Joe Schad.
“I'm pleased to announce an extension of Paul Johnson's contract,” athletic director Mike Bobinski said in a news release. “This extension reflects our confidence in the solid foundation Coach Johnson has built for the future success of our program, which reaches beyond the field and includes increasingly strong academic achievement.
“I look forward to Paul Johnson's continued leadership of our football program and am excited about the possibilities in the years ahead.”

Over seven seasons at Georgia Tech, Johnson has led the Yellow Jackets to a 58-34 record with a bowl appearance in every season. Johnson, who previously served as the coach at Navy, is known for his triple-option offense.
Johnson earned his third ACC Coach of the Year award this season. In addition, Georgia Tech will make its third appearance in the conference championship game under Johnson on Saturday, when it will take on No. 4 Florida State.
“I am excited that we were able to work out a contract extension,” Johnson said. “I appreciate the support of our fans, students and alumni during my time here. My family and I are looking forward to being a part of Georgia Tech for a long time.”
The Yellow Jackets are 10-2 (6-2) this season.
