The Internet reacts to CMU's (almost) comeback in Popeyes Bahamas Bowl

The first-ever Popeyes Bahamas Bowl did not disappoint. Not even a little bit.

Western Kentucky stormed out to a 49-14 lead and seemed to be cruising to an easy bowl win on the beach, but Central Michigan scored 34 unanswered points including one of the most ridiculous final plays you’ll ever see with a chance to tie or win after the clock struck zero. The Chippewas opted to go for two but couldn’t convert, and the Hilltoppers held on, 49-48 (video via the great and powerful @cjzero).

If you weren’t watching, you missed one of the most ridiculous bowl performances, well, ever. That’s the thing about college football. Complain about there being too many bowls. Complain about bowl season being too commercial. Complain about whatever you want. But in college football every game is a chance to see something you’ve never seen before. And 34 unanswered points by Central Michigan in the fourth quarter with a chance to win with a two-point conversion was one of those things.

The Chippewas got 493 yards and seven touchdowns from Cooper Rush, including five touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone. But when Rush’s fade was incomplete on the conversion attempt, the Chips were sent home without a win despite putting every single bit of effort a team can.

Titus Davis had six catches for 139 yards and four touchdowns but was outdone by Rush, who set a bowl record with his seven passing scores.
