Former ND QB Tommy Rees to join Northwestern as graduate assistant

Publish date:

As the son of a longtime college and NFL personnel man and a cerebral quarterback for one of the nation's most prestigious programs, Tommy Rees always figured to make a good college football coach eventually.

Now that career has its launching point. The former Notre Dame signal-caller will join Northwestern as an offensive graduate assistant, a source confirmed to

Rees grew up in nearby Lake Bluff, Ill. and passed for 7,351 yards and 61 touchdowns against 37 interceptions in four years at Notre Dame. Though his physical tools drew no shortage of scrutiny, no one criticized Rees' football acumen and he had the widespread respect of the locker room even as he was bounced between starting and backup roles along the way.

Rees' father, Bill, also began a long career as a football coach and personnel man at Northwestern, where he served as a GA from 1976-77.

Football Scoop and Wildcat Digest initially reported Tommy Rees' addition to the Northwestern staff.
