Report: Wisconsin PG Traevon Jackson has broken right foot

Wisconsin point guard Traevon Jackson has a broken right foot and will undergo surgery on Thursday, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN. The surgery will likely keep him out six weeks.

UW acknowledged the injury in a release, but did not confirm whether the foot was broken. The statement said Jackson will begin his initial rehab process in two-to-three weeks.

"I’m just trying to enjoy the process, learn from this and trust in Christ," Jackson said. "I know my teammates will come together and be stronger because of this. I’m looking forward to coming back mentally stronger than ever and more prepared to win championships and finish off the year and the seniors’ careers the right way."

Badgers coach Bo Ryan acknowledged Jackson's injury on Monday, calling it a serious foot injury and saying he was unsure when the senior would return to the lineup.

Jackson sustained the injury during Wisconsin's loss to Rutgers on Sunday. He was forced to leave the game during the second half.

Before Goodman's report, Ryan indicated that the injury would likely sideline the 22-year-old for an extended period.

"Oh, it's pretty severe," Ryan said, regarding the injury. "How severe or what's next, we're not sure. We're still waiting for some test results."

The loss at Rutgers was Wisconsin's first conference loss of the season.

Sophomore Bronson Koenig, who made his first college start in Sunday's loss to the Scarlet Knights, will likely take over Jackson's point guard duties.

Wisconsin's next game is on Thursday, when Nebraska comes to Madison. The two teams met just once last season, with the Badgers losing 77-68 on the road in the final game of the regular season.

In 17 games this season, Jackson has averaged 9.4 points, 2.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 27.4 minutes per game. In four years in Wisconsin, he has averaged 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

The Badgers, currently No. 7 in the country, are 15-2 overall this season and 3-1 in the Big Ten.
