Kent State RBs coach Don Treadwell promoted to offensive coordinator
Kent State running backs coach Don Treadwell has been promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Offensive line coach and run game coordinator Shawn Clark also added the title of assistant head coach. The moves, as reported first by SI.com, mean Golden Flashes coach Paul Haynes is still looking to fill two coaching positions on his staff: running backs and cornerbacks.
This is the fifth time Treadwell has been an offensive coordinator in his 29-year coaching career and gives Haynes a respected play-caller in his long-time friend. Treadwell previously held the position at Youngstown State (1986-1991), Ball State (2003), Cincinnati (2004-06) and Michigan State (2007-10).
This past season at Kent State was the first for the 54-year-old Treadwell after three seasons as head coach at Miami (Ohio), where he was fired in October 2013 following an 8-21 record. He replaces former Golden Flashes offensive coordinator Brian Rock, who was let go last month after his unit was among the nation’s worst this season.

Clark, 39, previously coached the offensive line at Purdue (2009-12) and Eastern Kentucky (2005-08). He was also a graduate assistant at Louisville from 2001-02 and played offensive line at Appalachian State (1994-98).
An alumnus of Kent State and former defensive coordinator at Arkansas, Haynes has a 6-17 record in his two seasons, including a 2-9 mark this past year. But the Golden Flashes closed the season with a win over rival Akron and return two first-team All-MAC selections in rising junior safety Nate Holley, one of the nation’s top tacklers, and rising senior punter Anthony Melchiori, who led the conference in punting average.
