South Carolina recruit 'befuddled' by Louisville scholarship withdrawal
South Carolina high school running back Matt Colburn says that he was "befuddled" after Louisville pulled his scholarship offer from him, according to WLTX.
Coburn was named Mr. Football after his senior campaign at Dutch Fork High School.
Coburn took his official visit to Louisville two weeks ago, but says that the school reversed course when defensive coordinator Todd Grantham told him that the team would need extra defensive players. Instead, Coburn says that Grantham offered him “gray shirt” offer, which basically delays enrollment a year.
“I was completely befuddled,” Coburn said to WLTX. “When I gave my commitment in early June that was obviously so I can get this out of the way and just focus on my season and have everything set in stone. My commitment wasn’t the same as theirs.”

Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts said that Louisville could no longer recruit players at the school in the future and banned Grantham and head coach Bobby Petrino from visiting the school.
“Louisville is only going to hurt themselves doing this," Knotts said. "Everybody knows not just what a good player Matt is but what a good person he is. That is not the way to do business and if that's the way to do business we don't want to deal with them.”
Coburn says he plans on visiting Wake Forest and Georgia Southern and has already visited Marshall. He says it is a “three-way tie” between the schools for his commitment.
Coburn rushed for 1,705 yards and 27 touchdowns and added another 233 receiving yards in 13 games this season.
