Texas guard Javan Felix worried about long-term effects of concussion

Texas guard Javan Felix says he's had three concussions since last February.

Texas Longhorns guard Javan Felix scored 16 points Wednesday in his first game back from a school-mandated, 10-day, post-concussion rest period. 

Now, he's worried if he suffers one more concussion, he won't be able to return to the court at all. 

From the Austin-American Statesman: 

When asked if he was worried about any long-term effects, Felix said, "Of course, it’s my brain. The only way to stop this is to not play. I love basketball; it’s what I’ve been doing my whole life. I healed up and felt like I was ready to go.

"I am worried about it,” he added. “Probably, if I get hit hard and it’s a real bad one, I think I won’t be able to play again."

Basketball is not often discussed when it comes to concussion problems, but Felix has suffered three since last February on fairly routine plays. 

The junior guard is averaging more than 10 points, two assists and two rebounds a game for the Longhorns this season. Texas is 16-8, but has dropped four of its last six games, and is only 5-6 in Big 12 play.
