Michigan's John Beilein on Derrick Walton: 'We're running out of time'
Michigan coach John Beilein discussed on Wednesday whether he thinks sophomore point guard Derrick Walton Jr. will play again this season. Walton has not played since the Wolverines' Jan. 24 loss to Wisconsin because of a sore foot.
"We're running out of time," Beilein said on his radio show, according to the Detroit Free Press. "He has not been close to doing anything full speed. He pushes off certain ways, it bothers him. His tryouts with us are usually very short, 10-15 minutes. See what you can do today. When I see him push off and nothing happens and there's a grimace on his face, I say, out, and then we wait a couple more days and we try it again."
Beilein added, "One day it will be fine, but it's still bothering him too much to play."
Prior to suffering the injury, Walton was averaging 10.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Michigan (14-15, 7-10 Big Ten) hosts Rutgers on Saturday.
