Georgia State, UCLA game-winners recall Bryce Drew's shot
Not one, but two coaches' sons made game-winning shots during NCAA tournament games on Thursday. R.J. Hunter's game-winning shot put Georgia State past Baylor, while UCLA's Bryce Alford had a potential game-winner ruled good on a goaltending call.
This is not the first time a coach's son has hit an improbable shot in the Big Dance.
Back in 1998, Valparaiso's Bryce Drew, the son of the team's coach Homer Drew, hit this buzzer-beater to clinch an upset over Ole Miss:
While Bryce's shot is timeless, it's hard to imagine anyone forgetting R.J.'s father Ron falling off of his stool—torn Achilles and all—after R.J.'s game-winner.
And the connection between the two shots doesn't stop there! Baylor's coach is Scott Drew, the brother of Bryce. (You have to imagine Scott's scars run pretty deep now that his entire life has been overshadowed by all the sons around him hitting these shots.)
Do either Georgia State or UCLA have another game-winner in them? The Panthers will play the winner of Xavier and Ole Miss on Saturday for a berth into the Sweet Sixteen, while UCLA meets No. 14 seed UAB.
