Obama's niece received threat before Princeton-Maryland game
Princeton freshman forward Leslie Robinson, who is President Barack Obama's niece, was threatened before the Tigers played Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday, USA Todayreported.
Robinson is the daughter of former Oregon State men's basketball coach Craig Robinson, who is the brother of first lady Michelle Obama. President Obama attended Princeton's 80-70 victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round on Saturday but was not in attendance for Monday's game.
Security was increased during the game, with undercover officers located near the Princeton bench.
Maryland's athletic department received an eight-minute voicemail from a woman who said a man was driving on the Maryland campus with a handgun in his possession, according to USA Today.
Princeton head coach Courtney Banghart said after Princeton lost 85-70 to Maryland that Robinson was not made aware of the threat before the game.
"It's incredibly disappointing that the first question we get after being 31-1 [and] in the NCAA tournament is about a freak," Banghart said.
"College Park police, I'm sure, had that under control. Leslie is safe. She's in my locker room. No one loves her like I do. She's an important part of our team," Banghart added. "Keep the freaks out of our gym."
