Michigan point guard Spike Albrecht (hip surgery) out 4-5 months
Michigan point guard Spike Albrecht will be out for four to five months after undergoing hip surgery, the school announced Wednesday. He will miss the entire off-season.
Albrecht averaged 7.5 points and 3.9 assists while shooting 40.4% from the field and 44.3% on three-pointers last season as a junior.
“I am not expecting Spike to dunk anytime soon, but we do expect a full recovery by the start of our September workouts,” head coach John Beilein said in a statement. “We just want Spike to be at his best for his senior year at Michigan.”
Albrecht previously said that his recovery time would be delayed because he can only have surgery on one hip at a time.

“The worst part is, I have to get (surgery on) both of them and (the procedures) can't be done at the same time,” Albrecht said two weeks ago, according to MLive.com. “I'd have to get one and then get the other, so my timeframe would be pushed back.”
The 5'11" guard rose to national prominence when he scored 17 first-half points in Michigan’s loss to Louisville in the 2013 national title game.
Following injuries to Caris LeVert and Derrick Walton last season, the Wolverines finished 16-16, missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010.
