FSU coach Jimbo Fisher comments on Jameis Winston's crab legs situation
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher commented on Jameis Winston's claim that the crab legs he allegedly stole from a Tallahassee, Fla., grocery store in April 2014 were given to him free by a store employee.
Fisher was asked about the former Florida State quarterback's claims on an ACC teleconference Wednesday, saying that it was "totally news to me," and that Florida State's compliance department was investigating.
"If he says it's [true], I guess it is," Fisher said of Winston, according to ESPN. "I had no knowledge of it until I came in this morning. But FSU, we did make contact with Publix back then to make sure there was nothing going on."

Winston, while speaking to coach Jim Harbaugh on ESPN's Draft Academy, alleged that he did not steal the crab legs, but was instead given the food for free by a Publix store employee.
“Well, a week before it was my buddy's birthday, and we had got a cake and we met a dude that worked inside Publix, and he said, ‘Hey, anytime you come in here, I got you.' So that day we just walked out, and he hooked us up with that,” Winston said.
"And when I came in to get crab legs, I did the same thing, and he just gave them to me and I walked out. And someone from inside the store had told the security that I didn't pay for them. And that's how the whole thing started.”
Winston is in the conversation as a potential No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
