Everett Golson rumors: Latest on Notre Dame transfer's destination
Former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has been linked to several teams since he announced his decision to transfer.
ESPN's Brett McMurphy reported last week that Golson has a list of "roughly 10 schools" to which he'd like to transfer. Florida State, Alabama, South Carolina and UCLA are on that list, a source told McMurphy.
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said Wednesday that the Gamecocks are not pursuing Golson.
An SEC bylaw could prevent Golson from playing in the conference. A conference rule requires graduate transfers to have not been, "subject to official university of athletics department disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous collegiate institution."
Fox Sports reported last week that Notre Dame would deny Golson the ability to transfer to any of the schools it will face during the 2015 season.
ESPN's Brett McMurphy reported that Golson will not make his decision on Monday, and that he could visit more schools. Below is the list of schools to which Golson has been linked.
Alabama
Alabama is interested in Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson but is "skeptical" the SEC will grant him a waiver to compete, ESPN's Brett McMurphy reports.
Florida State
On Friday, the Palm Beach Post reported Golson "could be leaning" toward joining the Seminoles, and that a decision from the quarterback is expected to come on Monday, after his graduation from Notre Dame on Sunday.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed that Golson visited campus earlier in the week.
"You have to be upfront with everybody," Fisher said Tuesday, per the Post. “We’re going to do what gives us the best chance to be successful.”
ESPN's Joe Schad reported Sunday morning that Golson is expected to announce his decision within the next two days and that Florida State is the frontrunner to land him.
SI.com's Andy Staples reported Tuesday that Golson visited the Gators after his Florida State visit. Florida has only two scholarship quarterbacks on its roster after Skyler Mornhinwegtransferred to Columbia.
South Carolina
South Carolina was reported on Golson's transfer list, but coach Steve Spurrier said Wednesday Golson will not return to his home state.
UCLA
ESPN's Kevin Gemmell reported Tuesday that UCLA has not contacted Golson. Freshman Josh Rosen and redshirt junior Jerry Neuheisel are expected to compete to replace Brett Hundley as the Bruins' quarterback.
