Former UMass guard Derrick Gordon transferring to Seton Hall
Former Massachusetts guard Derrick Gordon will transfer to Seton Hall, he announced on Twitter Sunday.
Gordon, the first openly-gay player in Division I men's basketball history, started every game for UMass over the past two seasons. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a redshirt junior last season. He will be immediately eligible to play for the Pirates.
Gordon told ESPN.com that his decision to transfer "has absolutely nothing to do with my sexuality."
Gordon's new school is located about 30 minutes from his hometown of Plainfield, New Jersey.
Seton Hall lost two of its top guards to transfer in the past several months. Jaren Sinaleft the program in February and said last month that he is transferring to George Washington. Sterling Gibbs, the Pirates' leading scorer last season, announced Saturday that he will transfer to Connecticut.
