Washington quarterback Cyler Miles has retired from college football due to a chronic hip injury, the school announced

The school said that the medical staff advised Miles that it would be in his best interest to retire because of the injury, which has caused him discomfort throughout his career.

"I am grateful to Coach Petersen and his staff for all the opportunities I have been given here at Washington," Miles said. "I am disappointed that my hip injuries will not allow me to continue playing, but I am committed to earning my UW degree and will leave the program with many great friendships and valuable lessons learned."

Miles was suspended for spring practice last year after his role in two on-campus assaults in February 2014. He was suspended for the season-opening victory against Hawaii last season, but started 12 games, completing 67% of his passes with 17 touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Huskies finished 8-6 (4-5 Pac-12) last season, including a 30-22 loss to Oklahoma State in the TicketCity Cactus Bowl.

The school says that Miles can remain on scholarship until he completes his undergraduate degree, and it will not count against the NCAA’s limit of 85 scholarship players on the roster.

Washington now has four quarterbacks on the roster: junior Jeff Lindquist, redshirt freshman K.J. Carta-Samuels, freshman Jake Browning and junior college transfer Tony Rodriguez. Lindquist is the only quarterback on the roster who has appeared in a game.
