J.T. Barrett's dad: Braxton Miller should start for Ohio State
As Ohio State prepares for a three-way battle at quarterback in fall camp, J.T. Barrett’s father says Braxton Miller should regain his starting job.
The Columbus Dispatch’s Tim May spoke with Joe Barrett, who said that although J.T.’s accuracy and ability to pick up Ohio State’s offensive played a major role in the Buckeyes’ success last season, Miller should have the opportunity to begin the season as the No. 1 quarterback.
Miller entered last year’s fall camp as the starter but sustained a torn labrum in August and was ruled out for the season. Barrett took over and gathered considerable Heisman Trophy hype while leading Ohio State to 11 wins in 12 games, but fractured his ankle in the regular-season finale against Michigan. Cardale Jones than took over as starter and led the Buckeyes to the national championship.

“Of course I would love to see my kid start, but for me it always goes back to who was first,” Joe Barrett told the Dispatch. “If Braxton hadn’t gotten hurt, I would still be waiting for my baby to get the chance to play. I was thankful J.T. got that chance ... and we were all blessed that he was ready to compete, but like I have told everybody, I don’t want to see my kid take a position because of the misfortune of someone else.
“In other words, Braxton should get that position back, then everybody else should go try to take it from him.”

All three quarterbacks chose to return to Ohio State for this season. Head coach Urban Meyer has yet to indicate who will start when the Buckeyes begin fall camp.
Ohio State opens the season Sept. 7 at Virginia Tech.
