Ex-Badgers star Frank Kaminsky comments on Bo Ryan's retirement
Former Wisconsin center Frank Kaminsky posted a message of support on Facebook for Badgers' coach Bo Ryan on Monday night, the same day Ryan announced he would retire after coaching the 2015–2016 season.
“I called Coach and he told me that in every one of his 40+ seasons as a head basketball coach his 100% focus and attention has been on the success and growth of the young men in his various programs," Kaminsky wrote.
“When and if it ever came to a point where he didn't feel he was able to do that he would leave coaching."
“No words can accurately describe what Coach Ryan has meant to me and how he has changed my life. It makes me happy that the best part of his decision is that he is not done yet. For one last year, everyone will see the same fire and passion he has brought every single day throughout his long and successful career.”
Ryan, 67, has coached the Badgers since 2001. In his 14 seasons at Wisconsin, he has posted a 357–125 record and led the program to the NCAA tournament every year; two Final Fours; four Big Ten regular-season championships and three Big Ten tournament championships. Ryan is also a four-time Big Ten coach of the year.
Wisconsin made its two Final Four appearances under Ryan in each of the past two seasons, most recently coming within minutes of the national championship before losing to Duke this past season.
Kaminsky was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the 9th pick in the 2015 NBA draft.
