2 Indiana basketball players cited for alcohol possession

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Two Indiana basketball players were cited for underage alcohol possession early Saturday morning.

According to a report from the Indiana State Excise Police, released Monday, uniformed officers observed sophomore forward Emmitt Holt and freshman center Thomas Bryant seated in a parked vehicle. Each player was found with one bottle of vodka.

Police said Holt, who was seated in the back, attempted to hide the bottle after seeing an officer and then tried to alert the front seat. Bryant, also a passenger, then tried to conceal his bottle, too.

Police said Bryant, 18, and Holt, 19, were released at the scene. They will be required to appear in Monroe County court at a later date.

The three other people in the vehicle were not cited, police said.

Team spokesman J.D. Campbell said in a statement that the athletic department was taking the matter ''very seriously'' and was still gathering information.

It is the second time in 10 months that Holt has been involved in an underage drinking incident.

Police determined Holt had been consuming alcohol when he hit a teammate, Devin Davis, with his car on Halloween night last year. Holt was not cited in that accident because police said Davis, who police said also had been drinking, jumped in front of the car.

Davis sustained a serious brain injury and missed the entire season. He was kicked off the team by coach Tom Crean in May after being cited for marijuana possession.

Hanner Mosquera-Perea, who was with Davis in May but was not cited, also was booted off the team.
