MAC Player of the Year Justin Moss expelled by Buffalo
Buffalo forward Justin Moss, the reigning MAC Player of the Year, has been expelled from the school following allegations he stole money from a dorm room, the school confirmed Monday.
The university said in a statement that Moss “is not currently enrolled in classes at the University at Buffalo, nor is he participating in university activities.”
A campus police report obtained by The Buffalo News earlier this month named Moss and two other Buffalo players as the suspects in a dorm room theft. The players were alleged to have stolen $650 from a room belonging to two Buffalo football players. The money was returned to the victims and they agreed not to press charges.
Though Moss and the other two players (senior forward Raheem Johnson and sophomore guard Mory Diane) will not face criminal charges, they still faced hearings with the school’s student misconduct body. The harshest punishment possible as a result of the hearing is expulsion from school.
Moss won Player of the Year honors after averaging 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, helping lead the Bulls to their first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. Head coach Bobby Hurley left the Bulls to take the head coaching job at Arizona State. Shannon Evans, the team’s second-leading scorer, followed Hurley to ASU.
