Bill Self ‘confident’ NCAA will clear five-star recruit Cheick Diallo
Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self said Monday he is “confident” freshman forward Cheick Diallo will be cleared by the NCAA to play this upcoming season.
Self made the comments after a charity golf event. Diallo is being investigated to see if some of the high school classes he took at Our Savior American meet NCAA standards.
“The thing about it is ... it’s been misreported a lot. There’s been good news, bad news,” Self said. “There hasn’t been any news because the NCAA hasn’t told us no on Cheick. They haven’t told us yes. But also we haven’t wanted them to tell us anything yet, either, because I think it’s nice to see how things play out with other kids who went to that school.”
New American, located in Centereach, N.Y., has a spotty history when it comes to athletes and eligibility. Recruits at Alabama and Oklahoma State have previously faced eligibility issues due to time spent at the school. Other athletes have been cleared completely.

Diallo, a 6'9", five-star recruit, would likely be a key player for the Jayhawks if he's ultimately cleared. He won MVP in the McDonald's All-American All-Star game in April.
