Stanford DL Harrison Phillips to miss season with torn ACL
Stanford defensive lineman Harrison Phillips sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's 16–6 loss to Northwestern and will miss the remainder of the season, the sophomore announced Tuesday on Twitter.
Phillips said he was “heartbroken” over the injury, but will seek a medical redshirt for the 2015 season to retain three more years of eligibility.
Before his ACL injury, Phillips was expected to be a full-time starter this season. Sophomore Solomon Thomas will likely assume Phillips' vacated spot.
Phillips, who was a Phil Steele All-Pac 12 preseason fourth team selection, made his first career pass breakup against Northwestern on Saturday.

A Nebraska native, Phillips played in six games in 2014 at nose tackle after injuries to Aziz Shittu and David Parry limited the Cardinals‘ depth.
Stanford's next game is at home against UCF on Sept. 12.
