Report: Pac-12 fails to make deal with DirecTV
The Pac-12 Network failed to make a deal with AT&T and DirecTV and will continue not appearing for those television subscribers, reports the San Jose Mercury News’ Jon Wilner.
The Pac-12 Network, owned completely by the conference, launched three years ago and is currently available to DISH and Comcast customers. AT&T, which owns DirecTV, was looking to buy a stake in the network, Wilner reported earlier this week.
Wilner reported Saturday Pac-12 officials “felt AT&T request for equity was too much,” and would have compromised the conference's business model and deals with existing partners. If AT&T bought in for a percentage of the Pac-12 Network, Wilnerreports it was possible carrier fees for DISH and Comcast would have been reduced.
The Pac-12 Network is currently available in 12 million homes. The Big Ten Network and SEC Network are far more widely available.

The Big Ten Network is co-owned by Fox, while the SEC Network is co-owned by ESPN.
Wilner reports it's possible AT&T comes back with another offer, “but at this point [the deal] is off.”
