Florida band asked to stop initiating popular penalty chant
Florida’s band was asked by the university not to play the song that initiates a popular post-penalty chant from the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium crowd, reports WUFT.
During the Gators’ 28–27 win over Tennessee on Saturday, fans realized the band did not play the song that, following a penalty called on the opposing team, normally prompts fans to chant in reaction. Instead of the intended “You Can’t Do That” chant, however, the typical response has been “Move Back, You Suck.”
UF associate director of athletic bands Jay Watkins told WUFT the University Athletic Association asked the band to stop playing the tune because “it had received a number of negative e-mails about the accompanying chant morphing into ‘Move back you suck.’”

“The reason why it’s been stopped is because there have been too many complaints from fans to the athletic department that the student section was saying something else that the fans thought was vulgar and inappropriate,” Watkins told the station.
“This is a frustrating situation for all and a perfect example of how a few complaints or a few individuals doing the wrong thing negatively affect a great 10-year tradition.”
Florida won the game against Tennessee after they erased a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter, and Volunteers kicker Aaron Medley missed a 55-yard field goal with three seconds remaining.
