Kickoff for Saturday’s game between Maryland and Michigan in College Park, Md., has been moved from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. due to the potential effects of Hurricane Joaquin, the schools announced Thursday

The current forecast from the National Hurricane Center projects the storm to begin impacting the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday. Heavy rains are expected Friday and Saturday due to a weather system unrelated to the storm that could dump two to four inches of rain in the Washington, D.C., area.

“Student-athlete welfare is our top priority, as well as the safety of all our fans and staff who play such an integral role in a Maryland football game,” Maryland head coach Randy Edsall said in a statement.

Saturday’s game will be the fifth meeting between the Terrapins and Wolverines, and the first in College Park. Michigan leads the series 3–1, with the Terps winning last year’s meeting 23–16.
