Despite the Longhorns’ 1–4 record, Texas football coach Charlie Strong has the support of school officials and powerful boosters, ESPN’s Joe Schad reports

Texas lost its third straight game Saturday when the Longhorns were blown out 50–7 by TCU

“Charlie has the support of the people he needs to be supported by right now,” Schad quotes a source as saying. “The last thing they want to do is make a change.”

Strong is in his second year with the Longhorns and led the team to a 6–7 record in his first season, culminating in a Texas Bowl loss to Arkansas

Texas was walloped by Notre Dame in the season opener, 38–3, and bounced back with a 42–28 win over Rice. The Longhorns followed that up with two close losses to California and Oklahoma State, both of which included late special teams gaffes.

Texas fired its athletic director, Steve Patterson, last month. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported that Texas fans had filed numerous complaints about Patterson’s penny-pinching strategies and that Strong and basketball coach Shaka Smart were disappointed with their lack of personal interaction with Patterson.
