Louisville campus police to investigate escort allegations
The Louisville campus police are in the process of reviewing allegations that former basketball staff member Andre McGee hired escorts to dance and have sex with recruits and players, reports the Associated Press.
The report marks the first confirmation that university police are involved in the investigation. When contacted last week, a police operator said university police did not know about the allegations.
“The University of Louisville Police Department, in consultation with the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, is reviewing allegations regarding the men’s basketball program,” university police chief Wayne Hall said in a statement.
The alleged claims that McGee paid $10,000 dollars for dancers to perform 22 shows between 2010 and 2014 in a players’ dormitory appear in a book released last weekend by Katina Powell, who says she provided the escorts.
Head coach Rick Pitino has said that McGee, who now coaches at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has been placed on paid leave, denied the allegations. Pitino also denies any involvement or knowledge of the situation.
