Daily fantasy sports companies DraftKings and FanDuel were barred from advertising during the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, reportsThe New York Times’ Marc Tracy.

The NCAA wrote a letter to the fantasy sports executives detailing that it would not allow the advertising to take place, including during its championship television broadcasts.

Also included in the letter was a formal cancelation of a previously scheduled meeting surrounding “the impact of [fantasy] products on college sports,” due to an ongoing investigation into fantasy sports employee access to lineup information that gave them unfair advantages over other competitors.

“Such a meeting is inappropriate at this time in light of the fact that your enterprises appear to be under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Congress,” NCAA executive vice president Mark Lewis wrote, “and several states and their attorneys general appear to be looking into your business platform, offering and policies for their compliance with the law.”

ESPN reported Wednesday that neither company will stop offering contests on college sports, despite the NCAA viewing fantasy sports as a form of betting.
