Notre Dame running back C.J. Prosise is going through concussion protocol, coach Brian Kelly told reporters Sunday. He’s hopeful the senior can return during the week.

Prosise left Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Panthers with an upper body injury, and was replaced by freshman Josh Adams.

Kelly said after the game that Prosise’s injury didn’t appear to be serious, and that he is considered day-to-day.

"It's kind of one where he's gonna have to continue to be evaluated," Kelly told reporters. "Shoulder/neck/upper body. He took a -- it wasn't a contact hit; it was contact to the ground. So head/neck/shoulder. He's doing pretty good right now, but we'll evaluate him and he'll be a day-to-day situation."

Prosise was taken to the locker room following a 10-yard catch to end the first quarter. He rushed for 28 yards on five carries and caught two passes for 29 yards before leaving the game. Adams, his replacement, ran 20 times for 147 yards and caught a five-yard touchdown.

On Oct. 27, head coach Brian Kelly told reporters that the team was taking extra precautions to protect Prosise in practice, including giving him a non-contact jersey.

The senior entered the game with 143 carries for 947 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season.

Notre Dame improved to 8–1 with a 42–30 win over Pittsburgh.
