Watch: Nebraska upsets Michigan State on controversial TD pass
Michigan State’s bid for an undefeated season came to an end on a a controversial Nebraska touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter that led to a 39–38 win for the Huskers.
Nebraska trailed 38–33 before Tommy Armstrong hit Brandon Reilly with a pass along the left sideline. Reilly ran out of bounds on the play on his way to catching the football, which would have made him legally unable to receive the pass. Officials ruled he was forced out of bounds by his defender before coming back onto the field. That meant Reilly was not flagged for illegal touching and allowed his touchdown grab to stand.

Nebraska failed the two-point conversion attempt, making the score 39–38 and giving Michigan State one more shot to take the lead. On the game’s final play, Spartans quarterback Connor Cook threw the ball out of bounds as time expired, leaving no chance for a final Hail Mary or long field goal attempt.
Nebraska moves to 4–6 with the win, and Michigan State drops to 8–1.
