Texas State coach Dennis Franchione denies report of resignation deal
Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione denied a report Wednesday that he and the school’s regents had reached a deal for him to resign at the end of the season.
“That’s news to me,” Franchione told SI.com. “It’s a completely false report as far as I know.”
Franchione is in his fifth season as head coach of the Bobcats, seeing the program through its transition from the FCS to the FBS in 2012 and from the WAC to the Sun Belt in ’13. He has a 25–32 record at Texas State, including a 19–26 mark since moving to the FBS. The Bobcats are 2–7 this season after going 7–5 in 2014, including a 5–3 conference record that tied them for fourth in the Sun Belt.

Prior to taking over Texas State, Franchione coached Texas A&M from 2003-07, Alabama from ’01-02, TCU from 1998-2000 and New Mexico from ’92-97.
He also had a prior stint as Texas State’s head coach from ’90-91 when the school was known as Southwest Texas State and coached Division II Pittsburg State, his alma mater, and NAIA Southwestern College.
The 64-year-old Franchione has a career head coaching record of 212-133-2 over 30 seasons.
