Toledo offensive coordinator Jason Candle to be Rockets head coach
Toledo offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jason Candle will be the Rockets' new head coach, according to sources.
Candle will succeed Matt Campbell, who took the head coaching job at Iowa State on Saturday night. Campbell went 9–2 with the Rockets this season, including a 6–2 mark in MAC play, and finished his four-year tenure with a 35–15 record.
Candle has spent the past seven years as Toledo, joining the program in 2009 as the slot receivers and tight ends coach under then-head coach Tim Beckman. He coached receivers from ’10-11 before adding offensive coordinator duties under Campbell in ’12.

Candle’s offense was consistently one of the best in the MAC, ranking second in the conference in scoring offense (35.3 points per game) this season and third in total offense (463.3 yards per game). The Rockets topped the MAC in both categories last season. Candle is also renowned for his recruiting prowess.
He arrived at Toledo after six seasons as an assistant at Division III powerhouse Mount Union, the first four as receivers coach and the last two as offensive coordinator.
