Davidson won’t retire Steph Curry’s jersey unless he graduates
Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry may be one of the biggest names in the NBA, but Davidson College will not make an exception when it comes to retiring his former No. 30 jersey.
C.L. Brown of ESPN reports Davidson only retires the jerseys of players who have graduated from the college. Curry, who left the school in 2009 to enter the NBA, never received his degree.
Despite the fact that Curry is only short a few classes, Davidson will not formally recognize his accomplishments unless he graduates.
Curry said he plans to complete his courses and earn his diploma. According to his Davidson bio, Curry was majoring in sociology. However, due to the fact that Davidson does not offer summer courses, Curry may not be able to finish school anytime soon.
“I knew what I signed up for when I went to Davidson.” Curry said. “I made a promise to coach [Bob] McKillop and my family that when I left school back in '09 that that would be accomplished, and it will be soon. Hopefully sooner than later.”
Curry also acknowledged that he is going to keep his focus on his career in the NBA for now, but said it will be “huge” to finish that part of his life when he does get the chance.

Before his departure from the school, Curry helped lead the Wildcats to the Elite Eight in the 2008 NCAA tournament. That year, he set the NCAA record for most three-pointers in a single season with 162.
Davidson athletic director Jim Murphy said he is not sure who would make the decision about making an exception for Curry, but that there has not been any movement to do so at this time.
Curry is averaging 32 points, 6 assists, and 5.1. rebounds this season. The Warriors remain the only undefeated team in the league at 20–0.
