Bowling Green outside wide receiver coach Andrew Sowder is being retained by new Falcons coach Mike Jinks according to a source.

Sowder was promoted to his position in February after spending a season as the Falcons’ director of player personnel. He arrived at Bowling Green with former coach Dino Babers after coaching outside receivers for Babers for two years at Eastern Illinois.

Babers left to become Syracuse’s coach earlier this month after leading the Falcons to a 10-3 record and MAC championship this season.

A Texas native, Sowder spent 2011 as West Texas A&M’s running backs coach and was a student assistant at Baylor from 2009-10. Before that, he was a tight end for the Bears from 2007-08.

Jinks was named Bowling Green’s coach earlier this week after spending the last three years as Texas Tech’s running backs coach. He was also the Red Raiders’ associate head coach this season.

A well respected former Texas high school coach, Jinks won a Class 5A Division II state title in the Lone Star State in 2010 at San Antonio-area Byron P. Steele II High.

The Falcons (10-3) play Georgia Southern (8-4) in the GoDaddy Bowl on Dec. 23.
