Clemson’s Dabo Swinney named AP Coach of the Year
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has been named college football’s Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, the AP announced Monday.
Swinney, in his seventh full season with the Tigers, led Clemson to its first undefeated regular season since 1981 and a No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. The AP is the fourth organization to name him Coach of the Year this season.
“I am very honored to receive the AP National Coach of the Year award,” Swinney said in a statement. “Football is a great team sport and any individual honor is a result of having a great group of players and staff. I am blessed to have student-athletes and coaches that believe in what we do. This award is a reflection of their hard work and commitment.”

Clemson has finished above .500 in five straight years and won its bowl game in each of the last three seasons.
The Tigers play in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma on New Year’s Eve in the playoff semifinals.
