Baylor settles with victim in Sam Ukwuachu sexual assault case
The former female Baylor athlete sexually assaulted by former Bears football player Sam Ukwuachu has reached a settlement with the university, according to the Dallas Morning News.
In August, Ukwuachu was found guilty of sexual assault in a Texas district court in Waco. During the trial, it came to light that the victim’s scholarship value had been reduced in wake of the events. Ukwuachu was indicted in June 2014 but remained on full scholarship, and was reportedly close to playing during the 2015 season before he was found guilty.
The assault took place in October 2013, during the season Ukwuachu sat out after transferring from Boise State. He missed the entire 2014 season for reasons the program never disclosed.
Ukwuachu was sentenced to 180 days in county jail and 10 years of felony probation, had a request for a retrial denied in October and is currently appealing his conviction. He was released from jail on $100,000 appeal bond.
The attorney for the victim, John Clune, told the Morning News that “the matter ha[s] been satisfactorily resolved.” No suit was filed in the case. The victim transferred from Baylor to play her sport at another school.
