With a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter, McCaffrey set a record for most all-purpose yards in Rose Bowl history with 368. The previous record was held by Wisconsin’s Jared Abbrederis, who gained 346 in 2012, when the Badgers fell to Oregon.
The sophomore started the game with a 75-yard touchdown reception, and later added a 63-yard punt return. He finished with 18 carries for 172 yards on the ground and four catches for 105 yards through the air with two touchdowns.
During the game, McCaffrey also became the first player in Rose Bowl history to record more than 100 yards rushing and receiving in a game, and the first player to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season in Stanford history.
No. 6 Stanford took care of No. 5 Iowa 45–16, thanks to McCaffrey’s two scores, and quarterback Kevin Hogan’s four total touchdowns.
