Utah hires wide receivers coach Guy Holliday away from BYU
BYU wide receivers coach Guy Holliday will have the same position at Utah under coach Kyle Whittingham, according to a source.
It is a coup for the Utes landing Holliday, a renowned recruiter for their in-state rival. The 2015 campaign was Holliday’s third at BYU, and he would replace former Utah receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield, who wasn't retained last month.
Holliday has been instrumental in helping the Cougars regularly boast one of the nation’s top passing attacks (BYU ranked 21st in the FBS in passing yards per game this fall), and he helped 23 wide receivers reach the NFL over the course of his coaching career. Prior to his stint at BYU, Holliday was Texas-El Paso’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator from 2008-12 after spending a season as Cornell’s wide receivers coach.
Holliday was Mississippi State’s wide receivers coach from 2003-06 and served as an assistant at Western Michigan from 2000-02, coaching wide receivers for two seasons and tight ends for the other. He worked as Alabama State’s offensive coordinator in 1995 and again from 1998-99.
Holliday coached Tuskegee’s quarterbacks, receivers and running backs from 1992-94 and got his start in coaching as the running backs coach at Clark-Atlanta.
He joins a Utah program that posted a 10–3 record this season, which culminated in a 35–28 victory over BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 19. Whittingham has a 95–46 record in his 12 seasons with the Utes.
