Led by freshmen Henry Ellenson and Haanif Cheatham, unranked Marquette pulled off a 65–64 upset win over No. 8 Providence on the road Tuesday.

Cheatham poured in 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Ellenson scored 13 with 10 rebounds and four blocks, the last of which came on the game’s final play.

With time winding down in the second half, Providence had the ball for the game’s final shot. The ball wound up in the hands of Friars junior Kris Dunn, who began to drive in to the basket right of the lane. When three defenders collapsed on him with just under three seconds to go, Dunn was forced to fade away and get a shot off. Ellenson rose up and swatted the shot, knocking the ball into the back court and sealing the win.

Marquette is now 11–4 and 1–2 in Big East play, while Providence falls to 14–2 and 2–1 in-conference.
