Stanford's Ryan Cidzik hired as Buffalo's head strength coach

Stanford assistant strength coach Ryan Cidzik is the new head strength coach for Buffalo coach Lance Leipold according to a source. It’s a return to Upstate New York for Cidzik, a Rome, N.Y. native. This past season was Cidzik’s second in his position at Stanford.

One of the nation’s most educated strength coaches on concussion prevention, he was Columbia’s director of strength and conditioning for football and outside sports from 2012-13. He was promoted to Memphis’ head football strength and conditioning coach in 2011 after a year in an assistant role.

​ Cidzik was an assistant strength coach for the NFL’s New York Jets in 2009 after a season with the Cleveland Browns. He was NFL Europe’s director of strength and conditioning for NFL international player development from 2004-07.

Cidzik was also Northwestern State’s head strength and conditioning coach from 2006-07. That was after his promotion to Louisiana Tech’s assistant strength coach from 2004-05 after a year as a graduate assistant strength coach.

Cidzik’s pupils include Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl nose tackle and first-round pick Dontari Poe. Cidzik was a fullback at Susquehanna University from 1997 through 2000.

He joins a Buffalo program that had a 5-7 record this past season under first-year coach Lance Leipold. Leipold had a 109-6 record in his previous job at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he won the NCAA Division III national championship in six of his eight seasons.
