Prior to Middle Tennessee, Faulkner served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Murray State in 2010 after a season as the quarterbacks coach at Central Arkansas.

At Arkansas State, he joins up with Anderson, who has a 16–10 record in two seasons with the Red Wolves. The 46-year-old Anderson led Arkansas State to a 9–4 mark and a Sun Belt championship this season, as the Red Wolves went 8–0 in conference play.
