Missouri DT Terry Beckner Jr. arrested for marijuana possession
Missouri defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. has been indefinitely suspended from the team after he was arrested on suspicion of fewer than 35 grams of marijuana on Wednesday night, reports David Morrison of the Columbia Daily Tribune.
A University of Missouri police officer stopped Beckner while he was allegedly driving his car with no headlights on. According to the officer, there was a “strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.”
The officer then searched the car, where a clear plastic bag of marijuana was found. Beckner was then arrested and processed before being released on summons.
“I'm disappointed to learn of Terry's actions,” Missouri head coach Barry Odom said in a statement. “We take this very seriously and in line with our department policies, Terry has been indefinitely suspended and will face team disciplinary measures. I don't want this incident to be viewed as a representation of our athletic department or football program, but we certainly understand the impact one poor decision can have.”
Odom went on to say that situation will be used as a learning experience for both Beckner and the program.
Beckner had 27 tackles and three sacks over the course of ten games this past season, five of which he started. He sustained a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee during the team’s game against BYU, which ended his season.
